Info

Ewurakua's directorial voice echoes the rich tapestry of the cultures she embodies.

Hailing from a small town in Jersey, Ewurakua Dawson-Amoah offers a fresh perspective shaped by her upbringing as the daughter of immigrant parents from Ghana and St. Lucia. With a passion for experimental filmmaking, poetry, and performance art, her work has garnered recognition in the Student Academy Awards, NBCU, Peacock, and Raindance Film Festival. Ewurakua's short "to the girl that looks like me" was part of Scene in Color Film Series, with the film featured on platforms Rotten Tomatoes, NBCU, and Peacock. Among her accolades are honors from Cinequest, Toronto Black Film Festival, NFFTY, and the Tony Hawkins Award for Excellence in Sound Design. Selected from the second largest applicant pool in the Fellowship’s century-plus history, she is part of MacDowell’s Winter '23 Residency where she’ll work on long form prose and poetry. Having already worked with Janelle Monae, Megan Thee Stallion, Serena Wiliams, Chrissy Teigen, and Queen Latifah amongst others, Ewurakua’s distinct ability to genuinely connect with people translates to films that leave a lasting impression on viewers. When she's not making spots, you'll find her listening to music, singing, practicing karate, or binging horror movies.
